How to Use the Saxenda Pen

1. Prepare Your Pen
Take your Saxenda pen out of the fridge and let it reach room temperature. This usually takes about 30 minutes. Check the liquid inside the pen to make sure it is clear and colourless. Do not use the pen if the liquid looks cloudy or has particles in it.

2. Attach a New Needle
Remove the pen cap. Take a new disposable needle and remove the protective seal. Screw the needle onto the top of the pen until it is secure. Remove both the outer and inner needle caps and set them aside safely.

3. Prime the Pen (Only for First Use or After Replacing the Needle)
Turn the dose selector to the flow check setting, which is usually a small marker. Hold the pen with the needle pointing upwards. Press the dose button until a drop of liquid appears at the tip. This step removes air bubbles. If no drop appears, repeat the step up to six times. If the pen still does not release a drop, use a new needle.

4. Select Your Dose
Turn the dose selector dial until your prescribed dose appears in the dose window. The starting dose is usually point six milligrams per day, gradually increasing to three milligrams per day.

5. Inject Your Dose
Choose an injection site such as your abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Make sure to rotate injection sites daily to avoid irritation. Clean the area with an alcohol wipe. Insert the needle straight into the skin. Press the dose button all the way in and hold it for ten seconds to ensure the full dose is delivered. Then remove the needle from your skin.

6. Dispose of the Needle
Carefully put the outer needle cap back on and unscrew the needle from the pen. Dispose of the needle in a proper sharps container. Put the pen cap back on.

Storage Instructions

• Unopened Saxenda pens should be stored in the refrigerator between two and eight degrees Celsius.
• Once in use, you can keep your pen at room temperature (below thirty degrees Celsius) for up to thirty days.
• Do not freeze Saxenda or expose it to heat or sunlight.
